the masters of the universe at the New York Times have decided to open their TimesSelect feature for free to those of us with access to one (or two, or three) valid .edu addresses.  not bad considering it also allows access to the NYT archives.

very niftey.  question for the librarians among us:  many academic libraries, including mine, have purchased access to TimesSelect via ProQuest at a significant cost.   now is free for our users.  and in real-time!  what is your reaction and plans to address with ProQuest?  love to hear your feedback.

Obviously I don't have any constructive comments. I (student) get proquest through the library and I can access it anywhere off-campus, too. But it's so much more convenient not to have to log on and search again when you can get it in one place from NYtimes.com. But at the same time, it's nice to have NYT included in multiple journal/newspaper searches on Proquest. Whether that little bit of convenience is worth the extra cost to the libraries is a completely different question...

LOL Do they have one for sick old farts that stay at home. There is more on the computer than I will be able to read until death due us part.
