yep. "diminishing expectations" is right. can't get much lesser, that's fer shure.

Nancy should whack the chimp with the gavel.
oooo, begins by sucking up to Nancy. good one, W.
One strike for the wimmin's vote.
a couple of months ago W. was saying that "the democrats shouldn't win because that dangerous Pelosi woman would be Speaker" heh..
I call if he can't spell it, he can't say it.
"WE'RE ALL HELD TO THE SAME STANDARDS" -- he just said that. To me.
What kind of work is he talkin' about?
Horse "fucking" shit!
"7.2 million new jobs" but how many good ones?
"our economy is on the move" yep, to China
unemployment is low... inflation is low... oh and um... NATIONAL DEBT IS REAMING YOU ALL IN YOUR POOPERS.
Hey, the good news is...
OMG, El Dicko will always remind me of the Penguin from Batman.
...yeah, I'm done. Have fun, peeps. Carrot Top would make a better "leader of the free world" than this piece of work.
This is sounding more and more like a debate intro or campaign speech.
yeah, but who unbalanced the budget? I remember there being a surplus when Clinton left office.
yeah, cut the deficit in half. the deficit you created.
we know what earmarks are; what to do about them?
he calls them "entitlements". what they are is the fucking safety net which is supposed to exist in civilized countries.
fix, fix, and save. how, how, and how?

Oh, so we're saving Social Security now?
No Child Left Behind is unadulterated bullshit.

btw, doesnt' Laura B. look completely drugged?
Science skills, hmmm, you mean like evolution, stem cell research...
Ooooh, Hilary looks a little squirmy.
...only every day of her life.
How has No Child Left Behind worked? no teacher I know speaks positively of it. ugh! i'm not sure if i can handle watching this...
Betty Ford and Kitty Dukakis have nothing on Laura.
I know how to get affordable health-care. single-pay system d'Oh
private insurance is not the best way to ensure health care.
no, not changing the tax code. the health care system as we have it is a way for insurance companies to get rich
[this is good]
did i hear him right? a tax cut will let uninsured americans buy health insurance? what planet is this guy on??
The Chimp from Alpha 7.
<--scratch that [this is good] I meant [this is seriously fucked]
have y'all noticed that Nancy P. is not clapping at this claptrap?

oh yeah, "better information technology" will save us in healthcare. pppffffttt.
and "reforming liability laws" is a keyword for not allowing malpractice lawsuits. which insurance companies are all for
Happy Platitudes.
wait, what?? a wall? a physical wall? to secure the border?
melting pot my @ss!
When is he going to talk about "No Job Left behind"?
about inmigration now. he wants "no amnesty" now? he was all for it two months ago, when trying to suck up the Hispanic vote.
and we all now terrorists come from the Mexican border, right?
he said it: turrurists. bottoms up! *starts drinking heavily*
Man, he works the word terrorists into every other sentence.
aha! "nucular"! *chugs another*
nu-ku-lear. yeah!
boy, i hope you guys bought enough booze. he's going to say it ALL.
yeah, I like how he segued from the illegals/border to terrorists/protection.
I'll have a half a tank of wood chips. The rest can be grass and agricultural waste please.
"try to reduce gasoline use 20% in ten years"...way to aim high, dude.

Kevin keeps heckling "C'mon nancy, pull out a piece and blow them both away"! And Global Warming was just said so it must be real now.

What renewables? Coal? Wood pellets?
"turrurists", that's a good one.
"modernize fuel economy standards". this from the fucker whose administration gutted the CAFE standards.
and I know how he is planning to "> the strategic oil reserves": by drilling ANWAR.
and omfg, W. now believes in global climate change? this from the fucker that would not sign the Kyoto agreement?
9/11! 9/11!
and Cap, you were off. but not by much. a lot of restraint by W. not to bring up 9/11 until half an hour in.
And.... we must take the fight to the enemy.......Kaboom!!!!!!!!! There goes Iran.
take the fight to the enemy - instead of Iraq?
what exactly has been "settled" about how we need to deal with terrorism? (turrurism) and how did he leap from that to and now we need to "take the fight to the enemy"? *brow furrows*
wha? wha? wha? what's "the tallest building in the West Coast?" and what was the plot to blow it up?
Someone should be keeping a tally of how many times he says that freakin word. That and enemy.
m, it's to let us know they're taking care of things for us so we don't have to worry about a thing. or think about it.
"a harsh and narrow ideology"? look in the mirror!
I keep seeing the "brother" picture at the top of the page and i am using it to bury my anger, lol.
Nice long shot of the 2008 ticket.
you are right on the money DB. also, LOL at Kevin.

oooo, he brought out Zarqawi. and OBL.
now Shiia are enemies? but, but, the President of Iraq (dead-man-walking-Maliki and his coalition are Shiia)
I'm confused
DIPLOMACY?? he's a diplomat now? this is really bad for my rage issues. *seethes*
9/11 again.
Keith says "Condi looks like she's ready to bite somebody"

Indiana Bush and the Golden Mosque
LOL, DB!
I say we cut and run.
W. is spinning like a motherfucker. and trying to rewrite history. he's making it sound like things were getting settled up to 2005 and "all of a sudden" the insurgents rose in 2006. bullshit, bullshit, bullshit.
now he says "the situation in Iraq" is not what we engaged on".
yer damn right, sparky
those people are cheering WHAT exactly? please tell me that's canned applause. are they idiots? they're cheering this doofus talk about "finding the resolve" to continue "the war we're in" that as it turns out is "not the war we entered"?

I didn't buy enough booze.
Calition forces my scrawny ass!
Coalition, but you knew that.
Military commanders will have only one approach, that's why they do what they do.
"terrorists, insurgents, and death squads". look at them W. they are your creation.
he keeps on talking of "Iraq army", "Iraq troops"...that's the elephant in the room. there is no goddamn Iraq army. fucking Paul Brenner disbanded the army in 2003, remember?
there is no chance for success. none. I'm with cut and run.
9/11! 9/11! 9/11!
GAAAAAAAAHHH! Sept 11 = Iraq. Not again? WTF???
What is more dangerous than death? Tell the soldiers how you want to spare them. Largely United!!!!!! Oh, puhleeezzzzzzz! Oh, and those on their way.
In W lingo, troops = war. It's not like that, W, what you want to say is "Support the war" not the troops. Say what you mean.
there is no new strategery in Iraq.
" generational struggle" wha?
now he is admitting he has failed, "this struggle will persist..."
and how to add to the military? a d- r- a- f- t?
a "volunteer civilian reserve corps"? ain't that the National Guard?
omg--he's really going to do it this time...we're re-instituting the draft! no, wait...we're hiring mercenaries! Even better!
Mercenaries. Soldiers of fortune.
nucular again! *chugs*
We are not alone. That's pathetic. Mikey is doing it.
Would anyone care if I fired up a fattie? Thanks.
multinational forces in Iraq? hardly. the British is about all that's left and they are getting out.
nu-ku-lear twice more.

Pappy Aptitudes.
puff, puff, pass
by my count this speech is 85% empty crap. "we'll continue to awaken the consciousness of the world so they may not die..." huh?
Bill Gates is doing more than this administration is for worldwide health.
Dikembe Motumbo. I met him before. Speaking of firing one up.
Gaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh! he's 10 feet tall!
myohmy, we are on "the kitchen sink" section of the speech, aren't we.
"heroic kindness"... oh, I get it. this is where he gets to parade the 'honored guests'. I was wondering why the fellow who saved somebody on the NYC subway is here.

the applause is what's bugging me most right now. is someone standing under the podium flashing them a sign? what are they applauding? he isn't saying anything.
What do these people have to do with the SOTU??!!
The girl at my office who does that walk for breast cancer awareness every year? SHE'S doing more than this administration is for worldwide health.
IG, the audience does responde to an APPLAUSE cue sign, probably a lighted one under the stage or above it.
We are so happy for Julie. She brought a girl in lavender pajamas with her.

heh. I guess DB is not the only one smoking a fattie.

and jaypo, you are totally right. I'm no big fan of Microsoft, but the Gates foundation is doing a marvelous job

And brave and humble people don't have a chance in any other place in the world...

These are red herrings to distract the public from the issues at hand. He's hoping that the thrumming of the heart strings will evoke enough goopy emotion that no one will notice what he's not doing or saying.
but jaypo, that makes them...just a bunch of trained circus animals...oh.
"Next we have the bearded lady. She has to shave just like I do. She's a good fella. I am taking her to Camp David for the weekend"
well, that's 49 minutes we won't be getting back.
Uhm...is that it? Wasn't that more like State of the Unreal?
61 applauses, IG!
well, that was...uninspiring.
now for Jim Webb with the Dems response. should be good.
no kidding, jaypo. that was a whole bunch of nothing.

LOL, dancing bear!
He who blogs and runs away
Lives to post another day.
PS... comment #100
thanks to all of you for listening and commenting.
DB, sop bogarting that blunt!
Pelosi intentionally didn't applause during W's Iraq blather.
I guess I'm 101? Politics 101.
And on that little hot air balloon, I float away. 'Night, peeps!
unless i'm too drunk to be hearing straight, they're saying he did really well. i may cry.
sigh--thanks for hosting Mariser! g'night all.
Night Jaypo. On a darker note, Gulliver just had a brown out in the kitchen. Old Folks! Always fun to have around.

Thank you, Peeps, for saving me the agony.

Namaste.

IG, I think by "he did real well", they mean "he didn't shit on himself". unlike dear Gully, there in DB's kitchen. happy cleaning, DB!

and good night jaypo. tell Buz we say good night too.

Good night. "Dirt" is on FX with Courtney Cox. Pretty funny. Have the fun guys. Off to clean a hazardous spill in the kitchen. Thanks Mariser. You can keep the roach for the rebuttle, lol.
Jim Webb is on now.
heh. "we hope this administration is serious..."
touche. "this is the 7th time the President has proposed reducing energy dependency"
good for Jim. he actually has facts. jobs are disappearing, the wealth is going to corporations and CEOs.
good line: "our prosperity should be measured in Main street, not Wall street"
oooo, a mismanaged and unnecessary war. indeed, Jim, indeed. sadly
"the President took us into this war recklessly...he disregarded the advice of [many]...we are hold hostage to this war"
the majority of the population, military, Congress, are against this war. we must withdraw. in an organized manner, but we must withdraw.

Ok... a few things. (to drunk to blog..never)

one.. I'm glad he told me who that HUGE gentleman is.. when Laura walked in I was wondering.

two.. no child left behind is under funded.. that's why my first graders' teacher has no help and why he doesn't get recess half the time.

three.. Cheney put something in his mouth and I was hoping it was a cyanide tablet.. I guess it wasn't

four.. I'm sure Cheney was disappointed to hear that Bush wanted Iraq to rebuild Iraq.. so long Halliburton?

five.. Why does he ALWAYS use the 9/11 thing explain why we're in Iraq.

six.. The reason we had to go into Afghanistan in the first place is because Reagan gave Al-qaeda (the axis of evil) the arms to fight Russia in the first place.. did it never occur to anyone that they might also try and take over the country when they were done?

Barack Obama is next with his comments.
"the President is not charting a new course in Iraq. he did not convince the American people or myself that what we are doing in Iraq is right"
"escalating troop levels is wrong; not only in Iraq but elsewhere"
"by keeping and > troop levels, we are reinforcing the idea that this is an open-ended commitment and it shouldn't be"

NCLB is more than underfunded. is not funded at all. is a Federal mandate, expected to be funded by the states. I despise NCLB; its emphasis in measurable assessment has ensured that a disproportionate amount of funds is spent in testing, testing, and more testing

Cheney and the cyanide tablet. if only.

I bet Cheney will lobby Iraq to hire Halliburton for the reconstruction

because his automatic defense mechanism is "9/11, 9/11"

oh, Afghanistan... hard to remember that the CIA trained Osama bin Laden, isn't it?

carry on your drinking, Jamie

and...I'm out. gotta work tomorrow, yanno.
'night folks.
[this is good]
"Safe Nuclear Energy"... can you say: OXYMORON!!!!?????
'cause none a them a gonna stop a the time...
War. What is it good for? Absolutly nothing!
I read these comments and know everything I need to know about the speech and then some!
[this is good]
[you have my sympathies]

Um .... guys? I don't know your prez's whims, but if there are missiles heading out here, just let me know pronto so I can get my ass safely out to the Bay of Bengal. Thanks.

Re Cheney and cyanide: I don't think cyanide works on a cyborg.

Also, good quote in Variety today, courtesy of Brian Lowry, columnist: "What does it say about [the] L.A.-D.C. gap, though, if the former's
power brokers can set a "date certain" to extricate themselves from
the enigma that is "Lost" before the latter can divine a strategy to
redeploy out of Iraq?"

The answer to Cheney--stake through what's left of his heart.

This has been a fun read, after the fact.
[this is good]
...and, The Onion gets the last word.
